Grape Jam is absolutely delicious and perfect for breakfast, elevenses and any time you feel like nibbling on something sweet. It is very easy to make, you need very few ingredients and although it may be a bit time consuming, you will know that the end product will be good and you can use as much sugar as you like.
Ingredients 1 kilo grapes 600 grams sugar Juice of 1 lemon
Directions
Buy grapes without seeds, like raisins. If the grapes have seeds, then you will have to remove them. Remove the stalks from the grapes, wash them, dry them and weigh them. Put one kilo of grapes in a pot and add the sugar. Simmer for about 30 minutes. The grapes will release their juice. Add the lemon juice and stir. There shouldn’t be too much syrup left, nor must it be too dry. Don’t forget that the jam thickens quite a lot when it cools down. If it happens to be too thick after it has cooled, you can add a little water and boil it for a couple of minutes.
When it is ready, take the pot off the fire and mash the grapes, using a potato masher. I like to have little pieces of the fruit, that’s why I don’t use a blender, but it is up to you and what you like best. Carefully pour the jam in the prepared jars, screw on the top and let them stand on your counter top upside down until they have cooled completely.
Enjoy!
