LettuceVegetables should never be washed before storing them in the fridge for a very simple reason. No matter how well you dry them after washing them there is bound to be some moisture left on the leaves. This creates a suitable environment for the growth of fungi and bacteria. It is also a good idea to remove the outer leaves of the lettuces that usually collect dust and insects.

Vegetables should be washed just before they are used.
